Stuttering & fluency

Stuttering is more than a speech pattern, it affects how people feel about speaking. We offer evidence-based therapy that addresses both.

Signs To Look For

Stuttering can look and feel different at different ages. Here’s when it’s worth seeking an assessment.

Frequent repetitions or prolongations of sounds or words that have lasted more than 3 months.

Secondary behaviours emerging; eye blinking, jaw tension, or visible struggle.

Your child is becoming aware of and anxious about their stutter.

Stuttering is affecting school participation, reading aloud, or social confidence.

Avoidance of speaking situations; phone calls, presentations, social events.

Stuttering is causing distress or limiting opportunity.

Our Approach

Evidence-based therapy delivered in a way that works for each individual and their life.

Evidence-based treatment

We use the Lidcombe Program for young children and Camperdown Program or Westmead for older children and adults, both have strong research support.

Family involvement

For children, we coach parents to continue progress at home. The Lidcombe Program is largely parent-delivered with clinician guidance.

Addressing the whole person

We work on both the physical aspects of fluency and the thoughts and feelings around speaking because both matter.

At your pace

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. We adapt to your goals whether that’s fluency, acceptance, or confidence to speak up.

Common Questions

Many young children do naturally recover from stuttering, but this is not guaranteed. Early intervention improves outcomes and we'd rather assess early than wait and see when there are signs of struggle.
