Neurodegenerative conditions

Parkinson’s, MND, MS, dementia and similar conditions affect communication, voice and swallowing over time. We help people maintain function, safety and quality of life for as long as possible.

Conditions we support

We work with adults and aged care clients experiencing communication and swallowing changes related to the following.

Voice becoming quieter, softer or more monotone; slurred or rapid speech; swallowing difficulties.

Progressive changes to speech, voice and swallowing; AAC planning and carer support.

Fatigue-related voice and speech changes; cognitive-communication support.

Language changes, word-finding difficulty, communication strategies for carers.

Speech, voice and swallowing support across disease progression.

Contact us if your condition isn’t listed, we’re experienced with a wide range of progressive neurological conditions.

What To Expect

We make it easy to get started – no jargon, no pressure, just clear next steps.

1

Initial assessment

We assess current speech, voice and swallowing function as a baseline for future comparison and planning.

2

Personalised plan

We create a plan focused on maintaining function and preparing for future changes including AAC if appropriate.

3

Regular therapy

Targeted sessions, including LSVT LOUD for Parkinson's and swallowing exercises where appropriate.

4

Proactive planning

We anticipate future needs and support transitions including AAC banking, carer training and communication passports.

Our Approach

Evidence-based therapy delivered in a way that works for each individual and their life.

LSVT LOUD and SPEAKOUT certified

We are certified providers of both LSVT LOUD and SPEAKOUT, two leading evidence-based voice and speech programmes for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Proactive, not reactive

We prefer to begin working with clients early in their diagnosis, before significant decline, so we can maintain function for longer and plan ahead.

AAC planning

For conditions like MND, early AAC planning (including voice banking) can preserve a person’s ability to communicate as speech changes.

Carer and family training

We train carers and family members in communication strategies and safe mealtime management.

Common Questions

As early as possible. Early intervention with voice and swallowing therapy produces better long-term outcomes. We recommend not waiting until problems become severe.
